Clockwork
A brass skeleton clock ticking on a clockmaker's bench by lamplight
A brass skeleton clock ticks on a clockmaker's bench, drawn like an anime still by the light of an oil lamp. Its going train is real: the pendulum swings once every two seconds, the anchor lets the escape wheel advance half a tooth on every beat, and each wheel turns the opposite way to its neighbour at the ratio of their teeth, all the way to the slow centre wheel. Every bevel facing the flame catches the light and every wheel throws a hard shadow on the ones behind and on the wall. Move the mouse to look through a watchmaker's loupe; click for a glint across the brass. With music on the flame flares with the bass and the ruby jewels sparkle on the beat.
