Free living wallpapers
Wallpapers that breathe.
A library of living backdrops that loop without a seam, react to your mouse, your music and the time of day, and barely touch your PC. It's playing behind this page right now.
A library of living backdrops, free. Save any one as your phone's wallpaper in a few taps, or on an iPhone as a Live Photo that moves on your Lock Screen. It's playing behind this page right now.
The library
Pick a world.
Hover a backdrop to try it on behind this page. Every one is designed in code, so it stays razor sharp on any screen and loops forever without a jump.
Why it's light
Built to disappear
when you're busy.
Most live wallpaper apps run a hidden web browser or decode video all day. Baubra Backdrops draws each scene straight on your graphics chip from a few kilobytes of code, at 60 frames a second and every pixel of your screen, 4K included, and stops completely the moment something covers your desktop.
Typical GPU time for a full-resolution 1080p frame on a 2018 laptop's built-in Intel graphics. Any graphics card from the last few years has room for 4K at 60 fps.
When a game or full-screen video is running, or your windows cover the desktop. It pauses itself.
Still backdrops are handed to Windows as a normal wallpaper, so the engine switches off.
Memory the Windows app uses while a backdrop plays. Each backdrop is a few kilobytes of code, not a 200 MB video.

Questions
Good to know.
Can I get one in my screen's exact shape and size?
Yes. Every backdrop's Download button makes a picture (up to 8K) or a seamless 60 fps looping video (up to 4K) in any aspect ratio: 16:9, 21:9, 32:9, square, phone, tablet or your own numbers. It's made right on your device, with your settings.
Is it really free?
Yes. Every backdrop and the app are free, with no account and no ads.
Will it slow down my games?
No. When a game or anything full screen is in front, or your windows cover the desktop, it stops drawing entirely and uses nothing. On battery it drops its frame rate, and you can lower the frame rate and resolution yourself any time.
What does "reacts to music" mean?
The Windows app listens to what your PC is playing (it never records or sends anything anywhere) and backdrops that support it pulse and glow with the beat. Browsers can't hear your PC, so on this site the music button plays a made-up beat as a preview.
Does it work on a Mac, iPhone, iPad or Chromebook?
Yes. Every backdrop plays live in the browser, and the site installs like an app. On a Mac, the free Baubra Backdrops app for Mac puts a backdrop live on your desktop; on iPhones, iPads, Chromebooks and Android phones, "Set as wallpaper" gives you a picture made for your screen, and iPhones also get a short clip to make a Live Photo that moves on the Lock Screen. There are also seamlessly looping videos for TVs, video calls and other wallpaper apps. How it works on each device.
Windows 11 says "Smart App Control blocked an app"
Smart App Control only lets through apps it already knows, and it has no "run anyway" button. To install Baubra Backdrops, press Start, type "Smart App Control", open its settings, choose Off, then open the download again. Microsoft Defender keeps protecting your PC. On some versions of Windows it can't be switched back on without resetting Windows, so only do this if you're happy to leave it off.
Windows says "Windows protected your PC". Is it safe?
That message appears for new apps that haven't built up a reputation with Microsoft yet. Click "More info", then "Run anyway". The app only touches your desktop wallpaper, and you can remove it any time from Settings, Apps.
My Mac says "Apple could not verify Baubra Backdrops". Is it safe?
Macs say that about any app that isn't from the App Store. Click Done, open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway. Or skip the message entirely by installing from Terminal: curl -fsSL https://backdrops.baubra.com/mac.sh | sh. The app only draws behind your desktop icons, and you can remove it any time by quitting it and dragging it to the Trash.
Does it work with several monitors?
Yes. Each monitor can play its own backdrop, or they can all share one.
Does it work with several screens?
Yes. The backdrop plays on every screen.
