Cosmic Cliffs

Webb's view of the glowing Cosmic Cliffs in the Carina Nebula

The James Webb Space Telescope's image of the Cosmic Cliffs, the edge of a star-forming cavity in the Carina Nebula, brought to life: slow light moves through the glowing gas, waves of brightness travel along the ionised ridge, faint wisps evaporate up into the cavity and the stars flicker. Move the mouse to drift past the cliffs and warm the gas near the cursor. With music on, the nebula breathes with the bass and the brightest stars flare on the beat.
