Glass Orrery

A stained-glass orrery whose leaded rings of planets turn in the light

A round stained-glass window holds a little solar system: a golden sun of radiating panes at the centre and six planets riding on concentric leaded rings that turn slowly, inner ones fastest, against deep blue glass full of seed bubbles and star jewels. Daylight comes through it and follows your clock: cool and pale from the left at dawn, blazing at noon with coloured pools of light on the stone sill, amber from the right at dusk, and at night only an oil lamp's glow on the lower panes. Hold the mouse to the glass like a lantern to warm the panes nearby, click to nudge the orrery, and with music on the planets' rings light in turn with the spectrum while the sun's corona pulses with the bass.
