Hanok Courtyard

Summer rain on a Korean courtyard house, silver threads falling from the eaves

A traditional Korean house painted in watercolour, seen from its courtyard in a summer downpour: rain runs off the curved tiled eaves in silver threads, a ginger cat dozes on the wooden porch beside the potted plants, a pair of white rubber shoes waits on the step stone, and the earthenware jars on their stone platform shine wet. Puddles in the yard ring with drops and hold the warm light of the paper doors. It follows your clock, from a misty dawn and grey-green day to blue evening and night, when the hanji doors glow from inside. Move the mouse over the puddles to ripple them, or near the cat to make its tail twitch; a swallow darts under the eaves now and then, and with music the doors breathe and the falling threads glint.
