Kirigami Forest

A backlit paper lightbox: a winter forest cut in glowing layers

A kirigami lightbox: a winter forest cut from six sheets of white paper standing one behind the other, lit by a lamp at the back. The light glows through the paper, brightest where only the far hills stand in its way and deepening to amber where the layers pile up, with a moon cut through the back sheet and a stag and a doe on the ridge among the birches. The lamp breathes slowly, the sheets sway a little on their stands and paper snow drifts down between them. Move the mouse to carry a second lamp behind the paper, click to flash it; with music on the light swells with the bass.
