Lantern Steps

Mossy steps climb through cedars and red gates, lanterns glowing in the rain

Worn stone steps climb a forested slope beneath a run of vermilion gates, between moss-covered stone lanterns and towering cedars, towards a small shrine roof in the mist. Summer rain falls softly, puddles on the steps hold the lantern light, and the time and date are brushed in ink on a wooden prayer plaque hanging by the path. It follows your clock: a misty blue dawn, green and gold daylight, the lanterns lighting one by one at dusk, and a dark, glowing night. Move the mouse and the rain parts around it like an umbrella; click for a gust that sways the paper lanterns. With music on, the lanterns up the stairs glow in turn.
