Twilight Drift
A glowing siphonophore and deep-sea jellies drifting in the twilight zone
Four hundred metres down, where the last blue of the day barely reaches, a siphonophore strings its glassy chain across the dark, light pulsing slowly along it. Crimson Atolla jellies hang in the black, rings of blue light chasing round their rims, and marine snow drifts down, seen only where their glow catches it. By day a faint blue haze lingers overhead; at night there is only their light. Move the mouse to stir the water and the creatures flash where it touches them; click and an Atolla sets off its alarm. With music on, light runs along the chain on the beat.
